21/1/2009 Cappuccino -my baby

I have been pushing for a 4 meter kayak for ages now and finally, it's here! I wanted a cool, comfortable and exclusive little boat and Nigel Foster delivered!

It's a beauty. This is the kayak I will take on short paddles.

I paddled the prototype in October and cant wait for my serial production
Cappuccino to arrive soon!

come on NDK, there is no way a 4m boat is capable of "touring". Other than that, it looks like a cool boat. A small boat that actually has a day hatch!

Hey Pinkandgeek! Glad you like the looks of it. And of course you can tour in it. his is not an expedition kayak mind you, but a day tourer. and it works like a dream and is a hell of a lot easier to haul around for a quick fix! By the way, what/who is NDK????????
Cheers
Richard

I apparently demonstrated how inefficient multitasking is. In one browser window I was reading the specs of a Nigel Dennis Kayak (NDK) and when I saw Nigel Foster's name in your post my brain saw Nigel Dennis.

I remember paddling some Point 65 boats in 2006 at the Charleston festival. I remember liking several of them, but it has been some time. Will you guys be there this year? I will probable have a booth to talk about my 11 day expedition on the St. Johns River in Florida. I would like to paddle some of your new designs for review on my site www.sethdent.com.

No sweat pinkandgeek. You are not the first... I'm not sure if our east coast importer, Paddlepoint or one of the dealers will exhibit. Nigel FOSTER usualy goes there though so you can chat with him. Cheers Richard

Interesting concept boat. I paddle a Necky Looksha Sport (14'6" boat) which I had to buy used, as the mold died a while back. Good play boat 9surf, rock gardens, etc.) and Ok as a day tourer (I've done overnights out of it).

Heard lots of good about the Mariner Coaster boats, and they are in the same size range as your 4 meter boat.

Thanks Peter, well to be honest I can't wait to take the Cappuccino out in some surf. Even though this is supposed to be a comfortable day tourer for little excursions, the combination of Nigel Foster designing, 4 meters in length and some surf must be awsome. I will report ones I have tried that!

I am so excited about this kayak!! I think a lot of kayakers get sucked into the mentality of a 'full performance' sea kayak as 16 or longer. What a shame!

I am betting for trips up to an extended weekend this would be a great kayak.

Hey Lance. Yes, I bet you I could bring enough stuff for a (short) week in it. But the real advantage is that it makes going for an afternoon paddle so easy and fun while looking great. Cheers

Hey Richard - I guess that was the point of my first paragraph, sorry it wasn't more clear. I know a lot of people who own 18 foot sea kayaks and yet they mostly paddle short day trips. They are just stuck in the mindset that sea kayaks should be 16-18 feet long.

I am actually hoping to sell all my kayaks and pick up a Whiskey 16 for my 'long' trips and a Cappuccino for the other 90% of my kayak trips.

Richard at Point 65 said...

"sell all my kayaks"? sounds like you have a few. Whats your fleet?

diaperdad said...

I have a very well used and abused fleet. An Explorer, Capella 163, Chatham 17, Tsunami 120, Riot Polarity, and a Legend. I won't be getting rid of ALL of the kayaks, but I do want to downsize and I have a lot of overlap. I will probably keep the Polarity because I like to have a short tandem with 'real' cockpits.

Richard at Point 65 said...

oh, thats quite a quiver.. Nice!

pinkandgeek said...

@lance what size are you? The shop where I work has a Capella 163 on the showroom floor, but we don't have one in our fleet. I haven't gotten a chance to paddle one, but I think it would be a really playful boat (I am 150lbs/68kg and 6ft/183cm).

diaperdad said...

I am 6'2" and 175ish. The Capella is pretty playful but it pales in comparison to the Whiskey 16. The Whiskey is one of the most nimble 'full size' sea kayaks I have paddled. If the Cappuccino follows the Whiskey then it will be a superb kayak.

Thank's for those words on the W16! Well, you will just have to give the Cappuccino a try Lance.

I am sooo excited about this Cappuccino! Especially in Pink! It's just too fun! And, isn't that what it's all about!

It looks really cute in pink. You should get one! I'm sure you can convince Nigel to have on sent over!
